Free DLC for Dungeons of Dredmor: You Have To Name The Expansion Pack

Gaslamp Games is quite pleased to announce a free downloadable content pack for Dungeons of Dredmor that we’ve put together with the cooperation of a handful of the Dredmor community’s top modders. To wit:

As with everything we do, we're completely serious about the name.

Expanded Features

  • Steam Workshop; mod integration with Steam! We’re turning it on! It’s Steamy!
  • Battle Geology, a wizard-like warrior skill with earth-shattering consequences by the terribly mysterious Null (how mysterious? terribly.)
  • Clockwork Knight and Rogue Scientist, a pair of crafty steampunk skill lines by the too-clever-by-half Ruigi
  • Warlockery, the wizard skill for wizards who would rather by warriors, by the utterly mad Essence — he wrote over 500 lines of xml for one spell.
  • A mess of twisty little rooms, all different, created by the deranged architect our mortal speech renders “Bergstrom“; The geometry is all wrong.
  • And to inhabit the renovated Dungeons of Dredmor we’ve summoned a pack of new monster variations dug up by one FaxCelestis, from the existentially troubling Poorly Cloned Hero to the lofty Diggle Rocketeer.
  • Naturally there are some new items and other such nonsense happening which you’ll have to discover on your own.

You Have To Name The Expansion Pack for Dungeons of Dredmor will be released very soon — We just need to do a couple rounds of testing and hook up all the Steam Workshop internet-pipes. If you would like to participate in the beta have a wander through our IRC channel.

Dungeons of Dredmor II 3D

In 2012 … Evil Has A Whole New Dimension

The stars are right, and you know what that means: It is the privilege and pleasure of Gaslamp Games to announce Dungeons of Dredmor II 3D, a sequel to the rather strange 2011 Indie Roguelike hit Dungeons of Dredmor (called Indie Game of the Year by the madmen of PC Gamer Magazine).

Suddenly, a pre-alpha screenshot appears! Click to view full size.

A first look at the dungeon. Using lots of placeholder assets for now, so please pardon the mess.

Like any respectable developer, Gaslamp Games acknowledges that once you’ve got something good, the only rational course of action is to beat yearly sequels out of the IP. Given that we could afford to hire some more artists and rustle up some Maya licenses, the obvious move was to take Dungeons of Dredmor in an entire new direction where we can explore additional, ahem, depths of gameplay yet unseen.

Dungeons of Dredmor II 3D Features

As an independent studio, Gaslamp Games is uniquely poised to create revolutionary new gameplay features that would be stifled in the publisher-dominated game industry. New features include:

  • Entirely 3D dungeons built with procedural generation to create unique levels, traps, and puzzles sadistic enough to confound every John Urist!
  • 600 bazillion damage types! Damage enemies with x-rays, phlegmatic damage, poking, subtraction, melancholia, insinuation, gluten magic, freemasonry, and liver!
  • New, avant-garde soundtrack by experimental Japanese noise group Violent Onsen Geisha!
  • Powered by the shocking return of a 2012 version of Ken Silverman’s Build Engine, used in such hit games as Redneck Rampage, Duke Nukem 3D, and Shadow Warrior!
  • Eleventy quintillion cheeses, each with their own damage type! Includes your favourites (Churpi, Khoa, Paneer, Brimsen, Remoudoi, Sirene, Anari, Molbo, Danbo, Tybo, Handkäse, Weisslacker, Kaseri, Höfðingi, Skyr) and more!
  • Use our in-app store to purchase Digglebucks to upgrade equipment, buy new inventory slots, and reverse negative Krongings!
  • Play our awesome tie-in social and mobile games to increase “quest resources” to get the best ending!

Get 12 "likes" on this post and we'll give you a lutefisk for free.

  • Dredmor 2 will use that one really annoying, unreadable font from Dredmor for everything, and not just the title text!
  • Even smaller, more numerous and indecipherable stat icons!
  • 3D-accelerated coloured lighting effects the likes of which haven’t been seen since the far side of 1998!
  • You still can’t see what your character is wearing – because, well… the hell with it!
  • Explore new challenging gameplay mechanics set in the Red Light District of Amsterdam!
  • Collect a series of tiny, magical hats by mastering The Third Dimension!
  • New, revolutionary, Artificial Stupidity technology makes previously smart monsters into gibbering morons!
  • 98% More Indie than Other Competing Indie Roguelikes!
  • Scads of Day-1 DLC include the ability to load and save games, and to have the ability to secretly save extra copies of your games in case you die suddenly with permadeath on!
  • New Crafting Systems include Yogurt Making, Elven Drycleaning, Bavarian Crafts, and the Human Centipede!
  • Cameo appearance by Famous British Person Peter Molyneux as Brax the Salesdemon!
  • Get ****ed up on Mushrooms!
  • Space Wizards!

Dredmor 2 will be launching on all fine Social Gaming Platforms near you. Have your credit cards ready.

The new Gaslamp Games office

As insinuated and/or implied via the Twittersphere and elsewise, we’ve finally got some pictures of the new office to show.

Left: Our neighbours' lovely building gives inspiration to texture artists everywhere. Right: Practicing the traditional Scottish art of the minifridge-toss. Joseph is wary; Nicholas don't care.

The move itself was moderately grueling. Nicholas and I agreed that the ability to live-tweet our adventures through darkest Richmond to find IKEA form the most compelling reason for either of us to finally get a smartphone. While heading in a direction that turned out to be about 270 degrees off my intended course, I sighted a Tofu Soup House and had to be restrained, then some point we crossed the Fraser river, broke an axle, someone got dysentery, and Nicholas and I finally found the Swedish Death Star and set ourselves up for some Sherlock-style jokes, somehow.

Realm of the Diggle Gods released for Dungeons of Dredmor

The Dungeons of Dredmor expansion Realm of the Diggle Gods is now available on Steam!

Buy it now on Steam.

(Also, Desura shortly, we hope.  We’re talking to them!)

In the lowest layers of the Dungeons of Dredmor, deeper than any man or woman has ever previously explored, lies the Realm of the Diggle Gods: giant, muscular things, created by the First Diggle in days of old, throbbing with potent gristly muscle and waiting to lay waste to any adventurer who dares to cross their path.

Deep within their underground temples, Lord Dredmor plots the next stage in his campaign of merciless brutality and world-terrorizing.

He’s probably sitting on an egg while he does it. There are a bunch of very large eggs down there, some of which are quite comfortable.

With six new skill trees, five new dungeon levels, a dozen new monster types, over one hundred new items, and a host of new rooms, features, and traps, the Realm of the Diggle Gods will challenge any adventurer – from a novice sword-poker to an advanced master of the arcane arts.

The Diggle Gods await your worship. It’s a very nice dungeon you have here, and it’d be a shame if anything happened to it.

Key features:

  • Six new skill trees: Veganism, Big Game Hunting, Werediggling, Emomancy, Piracy, and Demonology.
  • One Hundred New Items! .. ish.
  • Five new dungeon levels, in a variety of flavours!
  • New mysterious portals that lead to places that will kill you!
  • New scriptable rooms, providing joyful puzzles and traps!
  • A dozen new monster types to fight!
  • Polymorphing!
  • And More!

Realm of the Diggle Gods Trailer and Screenshots

Wish ye to ken eldritch knowledge of the Realm of the Diggle Gods? Look you no further for I present to you a trailer most fabulous for this new expansion to Dungeons of Dredmor:

Realm of the Diggle Gods will be released for sale very soon. Indeed, sooner than you imagine, unless you’re a very imaginative person indeed.

A big thanks to the talented Ian aka Verbal Processing for creating this trailer for us. Check out his Youtube channel in which he plays and discusses various games in an amusing manner. You’ll laugh and maybe even learn a thing or two.

And credit as always is due to the talented Mr. Steele who created the music; you can listen to as well as purchase the Dredmor soundtrack at Matthew’s bandcamp site.

If you don’t abide by Your Tubes, please do enjoy these screenshots that follow featuring all sorts of new nonsense you’ll discover in the Realm of the Diggle Gods.

Here, in the (new) Underground Forest, I make use of the lovely new fireball effect while a pack of loyal hunting diggles looks on. It’s possible some were caught in the blast. They’re very loyal. Usually.

Dredmor Expansion Preview Shots

While Dredmor patch 1.0.7 beta #3 runs through the thresher we figured you might like to see a bit of what we’ve been working on.

So for those who like digging too greedily and too deep into the Dungeons of Dredmor, here are a few early screenshots of the expansion (which-shall-not-have-its-name-revealed-just-yet). Note that these are early and in-development and all the usual disclaimering.

I heard you like rust. But what I mean to say is that there will be new dungeons to trawl full of new and more interesting dangers. And I probably owe Adrian Carmack another apology for all this.

A bit more of Dredmor 1.0.7 and beyond

The 1.0.7 beta should be going out to you Steam users with beta access in the next day or two [edit- or Monday for sure; whenever it gets pushed to Steam], provided little else explodes. We’ll keep you posted.

This screen gave me some trouble as you can see. The challenges I faced only grew from this point.
