Here at Gaslamp we’re in brain-rending beta vortex of madness mode. I’ll try to piece together a couple thoughts at the end of the post, but first a couple more previews:
From Gamer Credentials : Dungeons of Dredmor Preview – suddenly diggles, thousands of them!
It’s hard to believe, but just about a week ago Daynab (a Dredmor beta tester) wrote up this quick preview of Dungeons of Dredmor. All I’ll say is that he’s been a big help and Dredmor has come a huge distance in this short time.
And from Paul’s 8bit Patio : Indie Test Drive : Dungeons of Dredmor Beta (Roguelike/RPG)
Paul Soares was good enough to make a video of Dungeons of Dredmor gameplay for his Indie Test Drive series in which he gives a good introduction to the variety of ways to die in the game. Check it out:
And how about a word on Beta and Crunch?
The response to our beta invites has been absolutely overwhelming. Although the spreadsheet has not been assiduously updated, we must have passed out betas to at least 50 people over the last week or so. Feedback and error reports have streamed in, our email inbox overfloweth, and the Dredmor IRC channel is filled around the clock.
As for the game itself, we’ve been pushing out beta releases multiple times a day and are rapidly grinding through issues. Just the other night we split the remaining bugtracker issues into “need for ship” and “want for ship”. Most of the “need” is error fixes, UI/interaction polish and modification, and a tutorial feature. The “want” covers a lot of content creation and proper balancing.
We’re getting there. We’re working really hard. We’re going just a little bit crazy doing it, but it’s damn good feeling to be so close to this dream that’s been simmering for so many years.
These are exciting times for Gaslamp Games. Keep watching; some big announcements for Dredmor should come soon.
hi, i have hear of your game and it look prety damn cool (from paulsoresjr) and i would like play and enjoy your game ! 😀
Good to hear everything is cominging together. Each new build you release seems to outdo the other in more ways that just bug fixing.
Keep up the good work and I’ll keep testing it out for you. Just not the moddable part. I still think you guys should hold off on that till after you nailed down some of the bugs a bit more and added into the game everything you want in. Then head on over to mods :), but that’s just my unqualified opinion. I’m sure you get a lot of those 🙂
By the way everything is looking so much better. The fountains, the shrine rooms, even those blobbies that throw fire at me (That one took me by surprise) all of those have been fine additions.
Great work guys! So much to like in the game and once the “wants” get in, my brain might asplode.

I’ve been lurking for awhile because the game looks better every time you post. I’m very much looking forward to playing!
If I may offer a couple suggestions (which you may have thought of)
First, an option to turn off the help tips (not tooltips/popups though an option for that might be handy too?) might help unclutter the UI some for more experienced players. I mean the on-click pop-up help boxes describing what portions of the UI does.
Second, the ability to remap keys, including the function shift is bound to in the movie above (swapping skill hotbar to the item hotbar).
Finally, maybe some organization to the rather intimidating smorgasbord of skill during character creation, to visually separate warrior, rogue and wizard skills (or even by stat affected?).
I am very excited about this game and can’t wait to dive in!
hey ive seen your game from paulsoares jr and i was wondering if i could enjoy and play your beta before the game comes out and i have to make a descission to buy it or not.
-thanks
Well I have a few things to say.
Firstly, this game looks so good! I can’t wait till I can get it.
Secondly, I love how there’s so much comedy in the game.
Now I have a question.
How can you get on in the beta?
Hello guys,
I, like many, have been lured to your website by Paul Soares Jr’s videos on Youtube.
I was wondering if I could get a chance of acting like a freeloader by beta-testing your game, but I am actually unsure of how much “work” you expect of your beta-testers or if you included a reporting module in the beta version for capturing/uploading automatically the info you’re looking for.
Since I doubt you’ll hand me an entry to your beta, can you at least tell me if you’ll release a trial version ? I know that trying the (much) limited trial version of Minecraft was critical in my purchase of a license.
Other question : do you plan on releasing localized versions? Or will there be a possibility for users to propose through mods some localized versions in foreign languages?
Keep up the good work !
